a sydney wander - summers floral

1 Dec 2016

Last weekend I was driving home following a spot of Christmas shopping and after a slow trip from the North Shore I decided to make a detour to Woollahra. I parked the car and walked to Summers Floral, one of my favourite flower shops, for a dose of prettiness.

Summers Floral is housed in a beautiful old building on the corner of Queen and Moncur Streets.

There was beauty every-where I looked, both indoors and outdoors.

Some of my favourite succulents.

It was even better when I made my way indoors. How gorgeous are these hydrangeas?

And these beauties.

Hands down these were my favourites. Isn't that orchid an amazing colour?

And those roses? Sublime.

I walked by this cheerful front door on the way back to my car. Many years ago I lived in Woollahra and I'd forgotten how much I like the area.

I hoped you enjoyed my little wander around Woollahra.

I have a big weekend of baking ahead so see you all again next week.

Bye for now,

Jillian

kerrie brown shopshoot

17 Apr 2013

On my daily journey to Bondi Junction I walk past this shop, home to the Kerrie Brown Design Studio. The studio is housed in an old sandstone building at 9 Edgecliff Road Woollahra on the corner of Kendall Street.

Kerrie has had a long career in cinema and was responsible for the set decoration of one of my favourite movies of all times, Babe, Pig in the City.

So what's inside the store? Soft furnishings, lamp shades, window blinds and printed furniture in a gorgeous range of vibrant colours all designed by Kerrie.

Here's a glimpse inside the store.

Don't these colours make you want to smile?

One of Kerrie's fabulous blinds.

An elegant chaise lounge in the front window.

A more muted palette.

Some more of the jewel coloured lampshades. I love the contrast with the patterned ceilings.

The Botanical Series - my own favourite. I've always loved a good floral print.

I hope you enjoyed my visit to Kerrie's store. If you can't make it to 9 Edgecliff Road Woollahra Sydney in person you can buy directly from Kerrie's website.

See you all again next week.

Bye for now,

Jillian

shopshoot - little white home

15 Jun 2011

Things are a little bit hectic around here as I get ready to fly to Amsterdam on Friday. There so many things I need to do and I just realised I'd completely forgotten to post this shopshoot I did for Isabelle Stanton, the owner of White Home and Little White Home in Woollahra.

Little White Home is the little sister store to White Home and it's filled to the brim with gorgeous goodies, particularly for little girls. I shot Little White Home during the Easter break, on the only nice day we saw during the Easter holiday.

There was no shortage of beautiful items to photograph - clothes/toys/cushions/linens and jewellery.

I was particularly taken with the stuffed toys and the beautiful paper lanterns and pom-poms.

Little boys haven't been forgotten either.

And don't get me started on the gorgeous things for babies.

Little White Home doesn't have a website yet, but you can find the store at 165 Edgecliff Road Woollahra.

I've had a bit of a struggle setting up my laptop, so I can't promise you my usual collages whilst I'm away but I will be blogging as I go. Next time you hear from me, I'll be in Amsterdam.

So until then,

Jillian

2016 edit - Little White Home has now closed it's doors.

shopshoot - mud australia

16 Mar 2011

I've long been a fan of mud australia. A few pieces of their beautifully coloured porcelain have found their way into my food photography.

The lovely Claire was in the shop the day I visited.

The shop is located on Edgecliff Road in a sweet block of shops that includes White Home.

I love the pretty pink. I can see a batch of pink iced finger buns on one of those plates!

The porcelain is very fine and lustrous and comes in an amazing range of colours and shapes.

mud australia also stocks a few other products such as the chilewich range and cutlery from Portugal. I was particularly taken with the cutipol cutlery and one of the little spoons may or may not have come home with me.

I have one of the little red spice bowls and it appears in my photos all the time.

The Woollahra store is due to undergo renovations in April/May so I can't wait to return to see the new look. Thanks once again to James for letting me photograph mud australia

2016 edit - The Woollahra store has now moved to a new location in Double Bay.

white home

9 Mar 2011

When I wandered along Edgecliff Road the other day, I dropped into White Home. White Home is a little jewel box of a store and I've put off photographing it in the past because it's so tiny. I bought some linen napkins and thought I'd throw caution to the wind and emailed the owner Isabelle asking if she'd like me to shoot her shop.

There was so much to photograph and I did my best to show a range of what's in stock.

White home is a treasure trove of pretty things - beautiful mercury candle holders, cake platters, serving spoons, mirrors, bed linen and bracelets.

I put together a colour way that reflects what's in the shop at the moment - neutral colours, pewter tones and white tableware and loads of fringing.

It's all very tempting,

and of course I was tempted.

What did I come home with?

I came home with a beautiful bread board that you'll be seeing in my food photography during the next few weeks. That's the danger of doing these shopshoots!

I'll be back on Friday with a quick post before the weekend,

so until then,

Jillian

cotton love home

2 Mar 2011

Welcome to my first shopshoot of the year. I decided it was time to look locally so I took a walk down Edgecliff Road, Woollahra. In recent years its morphed into a part fashion/part design street. Sambag, Little Jo and Joanie Loves Chachi live next to Cotton Love Home, No Chintz and Mud Australia.

First stop was Cotton Love Home and I asked the owner Susan Sheller if she'd like to be part of the shopshoot experience. She kindly agreed, so my hunt was over.

I've visited the shop a few times before when looking for gifts. Susan has her own line of beach towels, called Cotton Love Home and also stocks bed linen, clothing, jewellery and lots of beautiful glassware. The shop is filled with lots of gorgeous goodies that I could see in my home.

I just love the deep buttoned upholstery on the chairs and the well worn bread boards.

Blue is my favourite colour so I love this little collection.

I have a bit of thing for beautiful lighting and Susan had so many great light fittings on display.

I have a morbid fear of parking fines, so I raced to my car to check it was okay. That's the only reason I left the shop without clutching a bag of goodies!

Many thanks to Susan for letting me visit her beautiful store,

Jillian

SHOPSHOOT Parterre Woollahra - Part 2

7 Aug 2009

As promised, here is part 2 of my blog post on Parterre. After roaming around the store I made my way into the courtyard garden.

The garden area is a delightful mix of vintage and modern - beautiful gates with the patina of age, water features, topiaries, potted plants, vessels and watering cans. Lots of things to covet I can assure you.

There was also a special visitor to the shop last Sunday - a 5 year old Pomeranian, Maltese cross called Bushie (I think). Bushie trotted happily through the store as I was taking photos, then took a stroll in the garden. Bushie sat quite happily and posed for photos before leaving the shop to continue with his Sunday morning stroll.

I can't wait to see what other treasures I can find next time I visit Parterre.

Have a great weekend every-one,

Jillian
