bondi - a sydney wander

I live on a hill overlooking Bondi Beach and on a good day I can see the ocean from my place. Bondi is the location of my go-to pizza place and my brother's place when he's in town but in recent times it's fallen off my radar.

On a glorious sunny Saturday I thought it was time to revisit Bondi. The cafes were full to bursting with the young and beautiful.

I checked the surf report that morning and there was a small swell so the surfers were out in force, though wearing wet-suits.

Families were frolicking on the beach even though at 18°C, I thought it was a bit too cold to don a swimsuit.

Kids were using the skateboard ramp.

There were a few brave souls swimming in the Icebergs pool.

It really was a glorious day.

A final shot before I left the beach and headed back along Campbell Parade.

I decided to visit the Bondi Markets which have morphed into a Farmer's Market since my last visit. The Markets were packed with food and flower stalls and loads of people.

Bondi is a very doggy place so I managed to get in some doggy pats while waiting for my bus to take me back up the hill to my place.

sculpture by the sea 2014

It's a really nice time to be in Sydney at the moment. The jacarandas are in bloom and apart from last Saturday's 37°C, the weather hasn't been too warm.

Farmer Andrew came to town last weekend and suggested we go to Sculpture by the Sea down at Bondi, a Sydney tradition. I live on the hill above Bondi and have glimpses of the ocean from my sun room. The exhibition is very popular as you can see by the queues for the bus to the beach, so we decided to meet at 7.00 a.m. to start the walk around the headland.

It was a gorgeous day down at Bondi and even though it was early, the Icebergs Pool was filled with swimmers. I'm thinking of printing this diptych for my spare bedroom/office wall. What do you think?

The walk from Bondi to Tamarama is a popular route at the best of time for walkers, runners and puppies.

I'm going to take you for a walk along the headland with me.

Some of the sculptures were so organic, they were a little hard to find.

My favourite sculptures were the ones framed by the ocean.

My favourite sculpture was this one called slow flow by Hugh McLachlan, highlighting two elements which define Sydney - sandstone and the sea.

I hope you enjoyed this visit to Sculpture by the Sea, which ended on Sunday much to the relief of the local residents a bit over the grid locked traffic.

Are you in the mood for Christmas? I stocked up on candy canes on Saturday as I'm planning to make some more Peppermint Bark this year. It was an absolute hit last year. I've also settled on a theme for this year's Christmas collection, which is going to be chocolate and cherries and I'm hoping to get started this coming weekend. It's also time to make the Christmas cake so you know how I'll be spending my weekend, up to my elbows in fruit, nuts, rum and spices!

shopshoot - miljo

I know you've been waiting a while, but here is the shopshoot I did of Miljo late last month. As you know I recently visited Scandinavia but couldn't carry back as much as I would have liked. I thought Miljo might have some of the items I sadly had to leave behind.

The Miljo shop is housed in a fairly typical Bondi building on Curlewis Street and the shop is on the ground floor. Bondi is a pretty funky place for those of you not in the know and as you can see, it was an absolutely glorious day that Saturday.

The shop is light, bright and airy and filled with all things lovely - lighting, ceramics, glassware, jewellery, shoes clothes, fabric, brushes and so much more.

I have one of these serving boards at home.

I grew up in a household filled with Scandinavian goodies, so I guess I inherited my love of sleek goods and blue and white china from my Mum.

How can you go past such simple but well designed homewares?

My own favourites are the Tonfisk warm range from Turku in Finland.

I managed to contain myself, but only just.

shopshoot logo - miljo shopshoot

I've just completed my first shopshoot since returning from my holidays so I thought it was time to work on a blog footer using my new shopshoot logo. I visited the miljo store down at Bondi last Saturday. It's filled with all sorts of Scandinavian goodies. I'm not posting the images from miljo until next week but I thought I'd give you a sneak peek today.

I've prepared 4 versions of the new shopshoot footer, 2 horizontal and 2 vertical, and I was hoping my blog readers would give me some feedback on which footer they prefer.

I know the more text heavy logo doesn't work on the horizontal footer, because you can't read the text, but what do you about the vertical lay-out?

I still need to tweek the alignment a little but Jess, the designer, thinks the more simple logo is more effective and funnily enough that's the one I worked on first. She also suggested a brilliant compromise, which may well win out in the end.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please send them along.

Bondi

For the first time in ages, we've had fantastic weekend weather in Sydney. It seems to have rained here for ever. My brother was in Sydney so I went over to his place in Bondi. We all went down to Bondi which was absolutely heaving with people. There were sunbathers, swimmers, runners, dog walkers, skateboarders, cyclists - just about every-one was down at the beach.
