When I was in Islington trying to locate the Estorick Gallery, I noticed a lovely old painted shop window and inside was Folklore, a store I'd read so much about. 





After my visit to the gallery I decided to visit. Would you like to come and have a look inside the store with me?



Aren't those tiles gorgeous and the rest of the store is equally as lovely.



This is what I found inside. Lots of beautiful ceramics, elegant lights and products made from gorgeous natural fibres.



There was beautiful wrapping paper, coin purses and furniture with clean lines.



I just love these Falcon enamel teapots and if Mr. Falcon is listening I'd particularly like one in red.



Just look at these recycled bookends. What a clever way of repurposing old books.

london part II - islington, shoreditch and borough markets

Hi evey-one,

I'm in Paris at the moment but as promised here are some more images from my time in London.





I visited Islington to see an exhibition at the Estorick Gallery.



As I wandered in circles searching for the gallery I passed quite a few nice shops including Ottolenghi, Toast, Folklore and Atelier Abigail Ahern. I had to stop when I saw this moss dog. 





Something pretty to share with you. 



After my visit to Islington, I hopped on the overground to Shoreditch High Street for a wander around the area. First things first, I needed some feeding so I dropped in here for a bagel and a piece of cheesecake. I'm still reeling at the prices as everything was less than a pound.



I dropped into Labour and Wait to find it packed with shoppers.



I walked back to Liverpool Street Station via Fournier and Princelet Streets in Spitalfields. The shops may change hands but thankfully the shop fronts stay the same.






The next day I was up bright and early for a visit to Borough Markets.





I do like a good market.





It was too early in the day for me to have one of these sandwiches, but they smelt wonderful.



So much grit and texture on display.



Some lovely produce. It made me miss cooking, just a little.

london - part 1

london - part 1

Hi Every-one,

I'm on the Thalys travelling from Brussels to Paris. The train may be high speed but the wi-fi certainly isn't. Hopefully I'll get this post written before I arrive at the Gare du Nord. I am so excited at the prospect of Paris, but back to London.



I spent 5 days in London. It was sunny the day I arrived, it was sunny the day I left and it rained every day in between.



I've been visiting London since I was 15, so I've been there a few times now and the city is very familiar to me. Each time I visit I like to explore a new to me district. This time I chose to explore Islington and I stayed at a gorgeous flat in Shepherd's Bush I found through airbnb. 




I visited the Estorick Gallery in Islington and I did a shopshoot while I was there but I'm awaiting for permission before I can post the images. I also visited my favourite gallery, the Courtauld at Somerset House.




I saw a wonderful Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern and walked back across the Millenium Bridge to St. Paul's cathedral, where I saw this view from the bridge.





I found these beautiful roses in the garden of St Paul's.






I also visited the glamorous Italian fashion exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. 





As I needed a bit of cheering up after a day of sloshing through puddles, I went to Liberty of London as their flower shop never disappoints.  





As always I took stacks of images so there will be a few more London posts. I also shot most of a roll of black and white film whilst in London, so I'll share those images once I'm home and get them processed.



Okay, it's official, the wifi has defeated me so I'll finish this post here while I still can.

Have you heard of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art? It's a beautiful art gallery about 40 minutes travel time from Copenhagen.



It has a beautiful sculpture garden, dominated by this Henry Moore sculpture, overlooking the sea.







The Louisiana has the best gallery shop I've ever seen. I could have bought everything in sight, but common sense prevailed.



Back in Copenhagen I visited the University of Copenhagen Botanical Gardens.






It was lovely seeing all the flowers in bloom and the sun shining.

I found time to climb the round tower and visit the adjoining Trinitatis Church, where I was treated to an impromptu piano recital.

There was no time to rest though because I had few final photos to take of HAY. HAY furniture is available in Sydney but I think a stand alone store would do very well. HAY has 2 locations in downtown Copenhagen and I visited both of them.



I'm looking for a new light fitting for my flat and this George Nelson light might just be the go.





I just loved the staircase in HAY House and the views of Copenhagen from HAY House were just amazing.





Some of the goodies I found in the store. I did leave with 2 tiny little items, I could easily stash away in my luggage.



Cool Copenhagen.

Those were my final images of Copenhagen. I've been in the UK for close to a week now and it's rained just about every day so photo opportunities have been few and far between. I'm planning to take my black and white film camera out with me today as I think film will best capture the moody tones of London.

Sorry about the absence for a few days but I was having trouble getting access to my images. It's now all sorted and be prepared for a deluge.

My Copenhagen apartment was close to a number of palaces so I visited three of them - the Amalienborg Palace, the Christiansborg Palace, the Rosenborg Palace and another historic area, the Kastellet.



The Christiansborg Palace contained some very grand reception rooms but I was most taken with the Royal stables and the beautiful white horses housed within.



The Rosenborg Palace is located in the Kings Garden and it's a beautiful doll's house of a building.



It's filled with treasures and the treasury housed in the dungeon is just spectacular.



The Amalienborg Palace was just 5 minutes walk from my flat, so it was one of the last places I visited before leaving Copenhagen.



I visited the museum but was most taken with the exterior.



I was on the bus heading towards the station when I spied a windmill. I did some research and discovered it was part of the Kastellet, a star shaped fortress.



The Kastellet was a complete surprise to me.



I arrived really early and found the place was alive with joggers and dog walkers.



Another jewel in Copenhagen's crown.
