bondi markets

10 Apr 2017

After a long hot dry summer, we've just been through a rainy spell in Sydney. I think we were all experiencing cabin fever by last weekend when the skies cleared and out came the sun. The day was too nice to spend inside, so after the baking was done and cooling on a rack I set out for Bondi.

I'd just missed the bus, the next one was 30 minutes away and as Bondi Beach is a 30 minute walk from my place I decided to walk there instead. My destination? The Bondi Markets. On Saturday the markets are primarily food based stalls, whilst on Sunday it's gifts and clothes. Come along with me for a browse.

The markets are held in the grounds of Bondi Public School, my Mum's old school.

I spent a few moments roaming around getting my bearings.

I found plant stalls and some pretty clothes.

No Bondi Market would be complete without a crochet string bikini stall!

Beautiful roses at my favourite flower stall.

I found jewellery, clothes and loads of puppies. Bondi is a very doggy suburb.

Some more spectacular flowers.

Leather items and giftware.

and finally, some beautiful hydrangeas.

I hope you enjoyed my little visit to the Bondi Markets. I must return one Saturday to check out the food stalls.

Have a great Easter break and see you all again next week.

Bye for now,

Jillian

shopshoots 2012

2 Jan 2013

Happy New Year to you all and I hope you enjoyed your New Year's Eve celebrations. I returned to work today and the gym as well so 2013 has well and truly begun.

I decided to trawl back through the archives to bring you a selection of shopshoot images from 2012. I actually did 11 shopshoots but that's a difficult number to collage, so I selected 10 images for you.

I'm planning to bring you more shopshoots in 2013, in fact there are 2 waiting in the wings.

I'll be back again next Monday so until then,

Jillian

xmas 2012 - bespoke press

2 Jan 2012

I spent Christmas with my family in Brisbane. On Christmas Day, I found this gift waiting for me. Look what I found inside.

A whole box of goodies from Bespoke Press, a gift from a thoughtful friend. Wasn't that sweet?

I hope you all had a good break from work and are looking forward to the New Year. Tomorrow is my first day back at work for 2012 and I'm wondering what the New Year will bring?

gifts from the kitchen

14 Sept 2011

A few months ago I went to the Sydney Finders Keepers to say hello to some of my Brisbane friends including the lovely Kylie Johnson. Before I left, Kylie pressed a package into my hand which contained some of these sweet ornaments. Kylie wanted me to have the tags because she knew I'd use them.

Well it took little longer than I expected but here's what I did with some of the tags. For Christmas last year one of my friends gave me a pot of her home made tomato and chilli chutney. I liked it so much I asked for the recipe.

I spiced it up a bit with some extra chilli and now it's really hot, so much so I don't know if I can actually give it as a gift without attaching a health warning!

Kylie also included a packet of biscuit ornaments, so now you know what I did with the remaining biscuit dough from Monday's post.

I'll be back next week with some more photos of my holiday purchases and those double chocolate sandwich biscuits.

Many thanks again to Kylie for my lovely gift,

Bye for now,

Jillian

shopshoot sneak peek

30 Mar 2011

Last Friday I did a shopshoot. I decided to reinstall some software on my computer Saturday night and have been trying to work my way through the process ever since. As a result I've not had time to prepare any lay-outs for you. I promise to get them done this weekend though and post in full next Wednesday.

So until then, I'll leave you with a sneak peek. Can you guess where I've been?

I'll be back on Friday with another pronto post,

Jillian

a paperboat press xmas

2 Feb 2011

I've made a few friends in the blogosphere this past year, and one of them is poet and ceramicist Kylie Johnson. We met up for a cup of tea and some mince pies when I was home in Brisbane for Christmas.

Now the first time I met Kylie, she sent me home with a bag of goodies and this time it was no different. She has such a kind and generous soul.

I came home with a paperboat press paper bag which I opened on Christmas Day. Inside was a beautiful dotty red star and one of Kylie's journals. I plan to take the journal away with me on my trip to Europe in June.

Kylie also makes some lovely Christmas ornaments pictured here on her Christmas tree. When you have time, take a look at some of the pretty things that Kylie stocks in her shop,

I hope your working week is going well. If not, then not too many days to go before the next weekend rolls around.

Bye for now,

Jillian

New Farm, Brisbane

22 Dec 2008

I'm back home in Brisbane for the Christmas break. On Sunday I met a friend for brunch at our usual haunt - spoon deli/cafe at James Street Markets in New Farm. The markets are busy every time I visit them - a combination of people eating at spoon or cru bar or buying provisions from the shops.

James Street itself is now home to many fashionable boutiques and design shops, eateries and the Palace Cinema.

After a brunch of poached eggs and smoked salmon on rye with asparagus and oven roasted tomatoes we headed over to kova, one of my favourite gift shops.

Every time I go there I always leave with a gift, this time for a friend rather than one for myself. On the hunt for Christmas cards we walked a little further up James Street to d.i.g, a sweet garden shop with a combination of plants, french provincial accessories and other goodies. If it were a little closer to home I think I'd be a regular visitor.

I can't believe that Christmas is almost here,
